About Me

I grew up in rural, northeastern Indiana. My maternal grandfather not only worked in the automotive industry but was also a farmer. My father was a short haul truck driver and my mother did everything from being a lunch lady at our school to cleaning hotels during tourist season to working in the factory down the road.

I moved away from my small town to attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN and graduated with a B.A. in Psychology in 2008. I then moved to Tennessee in 2010 and met my husband who is a Nashville native, born and raised. He still loves telling me what it was like growing up in Antioch every time we drive through that part of town! We moved from Nashville to Mt. Juliet in 2014. At that time I was working at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in a non-patient care role, which inspired me to go back to school to become a registered nurse. I graduated from Tennessee State University with my Associate Degree in Nursing in 2015 and worked as a registered nurse in the NICU at Vanderbilt Children's Hospital. I was fortunate enough to get to be a stay-at-home-parent after our son was born but when he started school, I dove head first into making local politics my "job".

The Covenant School shooting was what got me involved with the Wilson County Democratic Party. I quickly realized that we were never going to get safer gun laws, access to healthcare (reproductive or otherwise), or fully funded public schools in this state with a Republican super majority. So I got to work at chipping away at the Republican stranglehold in Wilson County because I firmly believe the path out of this mess is through places like Wilson County!

If we want to take back our state we HAVE to do better in our suburban and rural areas. We need strong county parties that can help bring Democrats together and build real community. We need to find Democratic candidates to run up and down the ballot in every corner of Tennessee. We cannot keep letting Republicans run roughshod over our communities. We need to find creative ways to support our Democratic candidates because the Republicans can and will definitely outspend us, but they CAN'T outwork or outsmart us!

I know what it takes to rebuild and revitalize a struggling county party because I've done it. I know what it takes to find candidates to run for office in an area where there isn't a single Democrat elected to office. And I know what local, grassroots candidates need to feel supported and win because I work with those candidates every day.

At the TNDP I will use what I’ve learned to help other counties and show them what's possible in a "red" county. I’ll be an advocate for Democratic candidates that don't come from places with a large donor base or an active democratic community. And I'll be a bridge between our state party and our county party because if we want to win back Tennessee we HAVE to work together.
